RCIA stands for
Rite
of Christian Initiation
for Adults |
| RCIA is the
process through which adults learn about the Catholic Faith and enter
the Catholic Church |
| Entry occurs
annually at the Easter Vigil (Saturday evening celebration before Easter
Sunday. |
RCIA is
designed for three groups:
- Those who have never been
baptized
- Those who have been
baptized in a non-Catholic Christian faith
- Baptized Catholics who
have never been taught or practiced their Catholic Faith

Phases in the
RCIA and approximate time are:
- Inquiry - from a
few weeks to a year or more (no commitment - up to the individual)
- Catechesis
- (learning) from a few months to a year
- Elect
- six weeks prior to Easter
Neophyte - seven weeks following Easter

| Inquiry classes
- these classes are available year round and may be entered at any time
by those interested. Please call Tippy McIver, 831-6608, for
additional information. |
Definitions:
- Inquirer -
someone that is interested in learning more about the Catholic Church
and is attending the inquiry classes.
- Catechumen -
an up-baptized person in the
catechesis phase who wishes to become a Catholic.
- Candidate -
a baptized Christian in the catechesis phase who wishes to become a
Catholic.
- Elect
- those in the final six weeks of preparation prior to the Easter
celebration who will enter the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.
- Neophyte -
those who entered the Catholic church at the Easter Vigil are are
completing the final classes in their journey.
